The exhibition "Paper - global product"

Sep272009

papierExhibition "paper - the global product" has been prepared in December 2005 by three organizations: Ecological Association EKO-UNIA, ROBIN WOOD and Federation of Greens Gaja. The content of the exhibition was addressed primarily to students of all types of schools (primary and secondary) and was inspired in part on the german exhibition created in Initiative 2000 plus, but in large part exhibition was changed due to the Polish realities.

The exhibition is consists of six tables, each presents a certain aspect of the problems associated with the production of paper. The first table present statistics on the use of paper all over the world and in Poland - it turns out that 20% of the world's population consumes 80% of paper production. We presented also, gained with considerable difficulty, data on the recovery of waste paper in Poland.

The campaign „The Baltic sea is in Poland. The Baltic sea is in Europe”

Apr132009

banner_batykOur actions in project:

"Natura 2000" – Training Workshops and Conference

We will organize 5 one-day training workshops in cooperation with local governments and Local Action Groups (the Leader + Program). The local authorities are facing now a more significant problem, i.e. lack of knowledge about the implementation methods of the Natura 2000 protection areas plans in harmony with development (investments). Our workshops will enable the local governments to combine economic development with the nature protection. In 2010 we would like to organize a summary conference presenting good practices within the area where local development and the Natura 2000 Network meet. The conference will host the best speakers.

Water Protection – Leaflet, Television and Internet Campaign.

The agri-environmental program packages give practical opportunities to improve the purity of rivers and the Baltic Sea. Being a financial support, the programs encourage farmers to plant and maintain a protective plant barrier which would protect the waters from the contamination with fertilizers.

We will prepare and distribute 30,000 coloured leaflets in A3 size to the farmers.

Moreover, we will plan a broadcast budget and prepare with the TVP’s (Polish TV) approval a 30-second commercial to be broadcasted in the TVP and the Internet.

The campaign of dietary minerals reduction is yet another opportunity for us to support water protection.

International Cleaning of the Baltic Sea – Poster Campaign and Happenings along with Conference

Waste is one of the problems revealed in the Plan for the Baltic Sea. The International Cleaning of the Baltic Sea (MSP)  will be carried out by Our Earth Foundation (FNZ). The Foundation will prepare two editions of posters encouraging participation in the action in the summer in 2009 and 2010. The actions will aim at promoting the protection of marine ecosystems and at paying attention to the issue of river purity. They will also include a practical dimension consisting in cleaning the sea and beaches and removing abandoned fishing nets by divers.

Annual happenings and press conferences hosting the ambassadors of the Baltic States (just as in 2007) are to encourage participation in the MSP.

Baltic Fish Promotion – Book Publication and Film Production

Our society has a very poor knowledge about the Baltic fish. Hence, FNZ is going to prepare and publish a book containing recipes of Kashubian cuisine to popularize fish from our sea.

The book, which is to be translated into English, German and Kashubian language, will present the fishermen’s customs and culture. Having completed its publication, we are planning to promote the book in five large Polish cities and invite potential readers to the Baltic fish tasting. The Eco-Union will conduct a mini educational program about different kinds of the Baltic fish. We shall also prepare ten 30-second films with the participation of divers, which will be distributed on CDs and published on our web site. What is more, we will advertise the films on the web portals of ecological organizations and schools.

Consumer Campaign in Aid of Dietary Mineral Reduction in Sewage – Radio and Billboard Campaign

The campaign aims at encouraging consumers to economically use washing powders which would improve the river and sea purity. The FNZ will carry out 2 editions of the campaign using 300 billboards and 3 radio commercials.

International Campaign in Aid of Balanced Fishing- study visit in Sweden and the Baltic NGOs networks' meetings

Polish fishery is facing a big problem which is cod fishing limitation imposed by the European Commission. Together with the Swedish partner The Fisheries Secretariat we planned 3-days study visit in Sweden for people representing different groups (fishermen, local government, scientists, social organizations). It will allow us to experience harmony of fishery and fish consumption.  We will be able to plan resources protection and future of our fishery better. We will develop cooperation with the Baltic NGOs Network. During the project we will have three coordination meetings in different Baltic countries.  They will be devoted to problems such as habitats destroying, the Natura 2000, excessive fishing, eutrophication, touristic pressure. We will translate the protocols accepted during the meetings into English and send them out.  The Baltic NGOs Network will stay in touch continuously during the project and speak out on sudden events on transnational scale.

External promotion of the project.

The website created for use of the project refers to the www.eko-unia.org.pl/baltyk website.  We will prepare and distribute e-bulletin every two months. The bulletin will summarize the most important events from our campaign and issues concerning the Baltic Sea. We anticipate regular organization of mass media events (press conferences, briefings, happenings)- 7 in total during the entire project.

Project goal:  The project aimed to protect biodiversity of valuable natural meadows habitats in rural areas belongs to the Natura 2000 network in the Lower Silesia province. Discontinuation of agricultural activity in these areas led to their lose meadowcharacter as a result of natural succession.

The project included the protection of the formation of two type grassland and related species in five areas: Barycz Valley, Valley of the Odra River, the Valley of Dobra and Widawa, Rudawy Janowickie and Karkonosze Mountains. Meadow communities in these areas gradually lose meadowcharacter as a result of afforestation, realized  plans under investment and lack of cattle on the farm. Because meadows have an exceptional natural value they deserve special protection.

morze2Target of the project is to raise social awareness regarding problems, especially aboud environmental threats of the Baltic Sea. Polish marine areas are territorial sea and so called exclusive economical zone. These areas take 10% of our country territory and have large economical potential.

More about campaign www.eko-unia.org.pl/baltyk

We want the project to convict/inform public opinion that actions and behaviours on the coast and inside the country affect state of the Baltic Sea in ecological, economical and social dimension. We want to build a partnership for the Baltic Sea composed from different social groups. We also want to prepare “Plan for The Baltic Sea”. It would be a document presented on regional conferences and on nationwide conferences with representatives of government and parliament.
